Obituary

Rose A. (Costa) Malone, 75, affectionately known as "PopPop" of Plymouth, MA, passed away peacefully in her home at midnight September 13, 2024. Her husband of 55 years, Jim, and her children were by her side. She was a pioneer English Teacher who inspired thousands of students with her passion for English and language. Rose spent most of her teaching career in her hometown of Plymouth MA, retiring from PCIS.

She loved to share, investigate and teach her favorite book, "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. Rose was a humble accomplished Poet and Writer. She encouraged overachievement through individuality and communication. Rosie motivated every relative and friend to be a better person with her grace, leadership, wisdom and understanding. Rose was as unique as the unicorns she loved and as spirited as the birds she watched.

One of her greatest joys was rooting for the Celtics and all the Boston teams with her husband Jim, who was also a pioneer in teaching. Each year she was the family Commissioner for March Madness, keeping diligent updated brackets.

She was a loving, compassionate, strong Mother, a devoted grandmother and an amazing partner to her husband for 55 years. She spearheaded the successful brain cancer recovery of her husband Jim. She loved adventures; road trips, camping, casinos, music, and visiting Florida to see many different family members on many different adventures. She especially loved letting the waves knock her over and a spectacular view from a balcony.

She cherished every second with grandsons Reuben, Spencer and Benett, making each of them feel special and loved by "PopPop". She taught them to appreciate the value of a good chat, and the fun of hyperbole. Rose is survived by her husband of 55 years, James E. Malone, Sr. of Plymouth, MA, her children; James E. Malone, Jr.(Maritza Malone) of Plymouth, MA, Jason P. Malone (Christina Scanlon) of Pompano Beach, FL, and Shannon-Rose Malone (Douglas Brodeur) of Plymouth, MA. Her grandsons, Reuben Malone of Kingston, MA, Spencer Brodeur and Benett Brodeur of Plymouth, MA. She is also survived by her sister, Bettyann Costa Cronin of Plymouth, MA as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Antone(Skip) Costa and Ruth Butters Costa.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Garibaldi Club, 36 Castle Street, Plymouth, MA, at 2pm on Sunday, September 22nd, Rose's 76th Birthday.
