Stephen Caramello, Sr., 81, passed away peacefully with his family by his bedside on May 4, in his home town of Plymouth, MA after a short illness.
Stephen was a lifelong resident of Plymouth, MA and loved to frequent the waterfront and look at the ocean.
He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1960, and worked as a cobbler at his uncle's cobbler shop in downtown Plymouth.
Steve loved to talk and was a natural salesman, he spent the beginning of his sales career going door to door selling siding, before he found a job at Swim World selling the new innovation of residential in ground swimming pools in 1968. After seeing the potential of this industry in the South Shore area he started Swim Sports Inc in Hanover, MA in 1976. He became the first synthetic wall in ground pool dealer in the Northeast for Pacific Pools, and grew his business by emphasizing the longevity and quality of the product and being a reliable company that communicated well with customers. He sold over a thousand in ground swimming pools in South Shore and his ideas have influenced the industry he helped pioneer.
Steve enjoyed frequenting estate sales with his wife of 56 years, Natalie. He was also an avid NY Giants fan and religiously watched football all day on Sundays. He also enjoyed going to the shooting range and was a member of the Plymouth Rod and Gun Club. Steve had a passion for riding his Harley and would attend the Laconia Bike Week with his sons. In his younger years he also enjoyed fishing and shell fishing in what he considered "the center of his universe" his beloved Plymouth, MA.
Steve was an adoring husband, father, grandfather, and friend who valued loyalty and family.
Besides his loving wife Natalie, he is survived by his children Stephen Caramello Jr. and his wife Trish of Plymouth, Lauren Cathcart of Plymouth, and his son Anthony and his wife Allison of Plymouth.
He also leaves behind eight loving grandchildren; Stephen, Jami, Jill, Ellie, Alexa, Luke, Vincent, Vivienne, Mitchell, and Courtney. He leaves behind eleven great grandchildren; Brooklyn, Nathan, Wade, Margeaux, Michael, Rose, Jackson, Reece, Wren, Anna, and Jumper. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral arrangemets will be under the care of the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth. Visitation hours will be at the funeral home on Thursday, May 9th, from 4-7 pm.
The Caralello family is planning a celebration of Steve's life in the near future. We will announce the date and time when the details are finalized.
