IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Stephen L
Currey
June 22, 1942 – November 18, 2025
Stephen L. Currey of Harwich, Mass, born in Woodbury Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Nov. 18, 2025. He was surrounded by family and loved ones at the time of his passing.
Though his younger years were not easy and not ones of glorified stories Stephen Currey grew into the man every child deserves. Stephen grew up in a large blended family. As an adult he committed himself to his wife and growing family as a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. For Stephen, his family was most important and his family's best interest was at the forefront of every decision he made.
As a teenager Stephen resided with his favorite aunt, Nancy, where he learned how to give and receive great love. Shortly after graduation, Stephen married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Theresa (Parks), and they started a family of their own. Soon after marrying, he enlisted in the Navy and served his country on the first nuclear aircraft carrier; the USS Enterprise.
Perseverance and tenacity served him well as he entered the workforce. He held several jobs over the years trying to assure his family's future. He was a mason, convenience store clerk, auto supply delivery person, hockey goal judge and gas station attendant, or in his words "petroleum transfer technician". He sought employment with the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office and returned every few weeks with the same request until he was finally offered a job, eventually becoming a Deputy. A gentle giant of a man, his difficult job was made a little easier by the friendships he made with colleagues and his belief in allowing dignity and sharing respect to others despite the mistakes they had made. With a career in hand, his focus was on providing for his family and being the best husband and father. Stephen was generous with his love and he provided his children with everything they needed and most of what they wanted. Despite not having a real role model himself, he taught us what it means to be a husband, father, a grandfather and a man.
By far, his greatest passion was his family. In addition, Stephen was an avid Boston sports fan. He especially enjoyed the Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins. He was very involved with the Cape League Harwich Mariners and performed many roles, including securing jobs and finding housing for the ball players. He opened his home to friends, family and strangers, besides housing players he opened his door to Fresh Air Fund children and foreign exchange students. He loved his game of golf and for many years he and his wife managed a golf league at Blue Rock Golf course.
He was known for his quick witted jokes and kind heart. Over the past few years he had a wonderful healthcare team that loved his humor. Stephen passed having lived a full life. He was immensely proud of what has become of all his children and grandchildren. During his final years, he struggled with the loss of his beloved wife and faced a series of ongoing health problems. Future milestones and love for his family kept him fighting hard and we will miss him dearly.
Stephen was predeceased by his wife and two infant daughters, Lisa and Christina as well as his "adopted" daughter, Lidice. He is survived by his daughters Patricia Currey and Heather Corbett and partner Armand and by his son Eric Currey and wife Dora. He was the best Grandpa to his crew; Taylor Phelan, husband Kyle and great grandsons Jameson, Cullen and Owen; Keslie DaCosta, husband Stephan and great grandsons Logan and Jacob; Kyra Corbett and partner Evan Dimatteo; Thomas J. Corbett and partner Halee Murphy; Marilena Currey and fiancé Portia McDonald, Nico Currey and Sarah Currey.
