Stephen J. Gilmette, 67, of Falmouth, MA, passed away on September 29, 2025, at the HopeHealth Philip Hulitar Hospice Center after a brief illness.

Born on April 4, 1958, in Acushnet, MA Steve was the beloved son of Jack and Pearl Gilmette of Falmouth, MA. He graduated from Boston College and went on to build a successful first career in management at Digital Equipment Corporation, where he worked for approximately 20 years. He later pursued a second career in nursing, working as a hospice nurse with HopeHealth for more than a decade. His kindness, compassion and dedication touched countless lives.

Steve was a devoted and lifelong New England sports fan, with a special passion for the New England Patriots. Among friends and family, he was known as a walking statistician, always ready with scores, stats, and insights on anything sports related. He also enjoyed the outdoors and especially cherished the Outer Cape beaches — particularly Skaket Beach and Nauset Beach in Orleans.

Steve never passed up a good bakery and always knew where to find the best pastries. He was widely known for his kindness, quiet humor, and generous spirit, and he will be remembered with deep love by all who knew him.

He leaves behind his beloved fiancée, Gail Miley, with whom he shared 15 wonderful years of love and companionship.

Steve's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to his colleagues and the entire staff at HopeHealth, who not only worked alongside him for many years but also cared for him with extraordinary competence and compassion at the end of his life.

In accordance with his wishes, Steve will be cremated, and no services will be held. Donations in his memory may be made to HopeHealth, 1085 N Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 — or simply honor Steve by performing a random act of kindness in his memory.
