Stephen James Kelley, 81, died at his home in Plymouth on December 24, 2025. Steve was born in Everett, MA. He graduated from Reading High School and attended Northeastern University.
Steve is survived by his wife, Charlene, of Plymouth; by one brother, David Kelley, of Maine; and two daughters, Jill Doherty and her husband Steve Doherty of Marion, MA and Jennifer Murphy, of Weymouth, MA. He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Finn Doherty, Reed Doherty, Lochlan Doherty, Emily Murphy and Connor Murphy.
Steve was a longtime commercial lobster fisherman, on the F/V Jill and Jennifer in the waters of Cape Cod Bay. He enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow-fishermen in the Sandwich Marina, and taking his daughters lobster fishing as children. In later years, he found that same joy sharing those traditions with his grandchildren. Steve was a delegate to the Massachusetts Lobstermen Association and served as President of Fishermen Services Not for Profit Boat Protection.
Steve will be remembered for his steady presence, strong work ethic, and an unwavering commitment to providing for his family. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
There are no public services planned at this time. Those who wish may donate to NVNA and Hospice (Croί Health) in Norwell, MA, to Comfort Keepers in Plymouth or to the Massachusetts Lobstermen Association Legal Defense Fund.
