Obituary

Susan Raleigh Anderson of Springfield, MA and Naples, FL passed away on May 24, after a short and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loving family Members.

Susan was the daughter of Eleanor Ruth Mullen and Lt Arthur Chatfield. Lt Chatfield died in WWII when Susan was only 4 months old. Susan was adopted by Eleanor's second husband William T Raleigh when Susan was only 2 as part of the Raleigh family clan.

Susan grew up in a large family as the oldest of 7 children. And with 10 in the household (including a grandmother) it was a bit chaotic at times...but great fun as well. Susan had many fond memories of growing up in Forest Park in Springfield and stayed in touch over the years with friends from the neighborhood. As a resident of Naples for over 30 years she also had many wonderful long time friends in Florida.

Susan was a graduate of Boston College and one of the first women to join the Pension Fund department at Mass Mutual. She retired as Vice President of the Department. Susan was a very accomplished duplicate bridge player and enjoyed participating in tournaments throughout the United States.

In addition to her keen intellect she was very generous, thoughtful and great fun to be with. Her wonderful gatherings for the holidays and celebrations at her home in Naples were ones not to be missed!.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents Eleanor and William (Bill) Raleigh, her husband John (Swede)Anderson and her sisters Florence (Billy) Raleigh, Maureen Busacca and Nancy McVay Petras. She is survived by her brother William T. Raleigh IV of Hyde Park, her sisters Pamela Mitchell and her husband Tom of Plymouth, MA and Lori Raleigh and her husband John McMorrow of Naples, FL along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A special thanks to Newfield House for their compassionate care during Susan's stay there.

A celebration of Life will be held at a Susan'sdate. Donations may be made in Susan's honor to Newfield House, 19 Newfield St, Plymouth MA.
