Obituary

William A. Davenport, 71, of Plymouth passed away on Monday morning after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born June 1, 1948, in Braintree, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late H. Winslow and Olive Davenport. Bill was an incredibly resilient man. It came as no surprise to those who knew him, that he fought this awful disease for so long, enjoying what he loved in life until the final stretch. This wasn't his first battle. After decades, at the age of 57, he got sober and got a chance to live life differently. In his late 50's, he went back to college, developed a new network of friends, and became a substance abuse counselor, giving back to his community. This was his 15th year of sobriety. Bill often said he felt lucky to be able to spend time doing the things he loved. He was an avid fly fisherman and hunter and an extremely talented artist. He enjoyed gardening, listening to live music, and dancing. He had read just about every book you can name, and he was quite skilled in the kitchen. Above all else, he was a loving father, boyfriend, and friend. Bill is survived by his girlfriend Peggie Delaney of Plymouth; daughters Rebecca Davenport of Sebastopol, CA, Emma Davenport Dodge of Westwood, MA, Adrianne Davenport of Goffstown, NH; son Adam Davenport of Brockton, MA; and 5 grandchildren: Josephine, Lorenzo, Jacob, Gavin, and Abigail. He is also survived by his lifelong friend Jack Barrett of Kingston. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth. Private family interment. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to: Anchor House, 60 Cherry Street, Plymouth, MA. Obituary lovingly written by the family of William Davenport
