Obituary for Janice Ann Fernandes (Martin)

Janice Ann (Martin) Fernandes, 72, of Carver, passed away from complications of leukemia on Saturday, December 20 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. She was born in Plymouth on October 25, 1942, the daughter of Mary Julia (Pina) and the late Francis Martin.
Janice, better known as Janny, grew up in Plymouth. She was a football cheerleading captain and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1960. She worked for several years as a secretary at the John Hancock Financial Company and retired after working for over 30 years as a business secretary for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2322.
She loved to dance, play cards, and spend time with family and friends, always having an infectious laugh and smile for everyone.
Janny is survived by her mother Mary Julia Brown of Plymouth, her only love and husband of 48 years, Benjamin Donald Fernandes II of Carver, her daughter Bianca (Fernandes) Jackson and her husband Michael of Carver, her son Benjamin Donald Fernandes III of Carver, her brother Manuel Perry and his wife Doris of California, and her grandson, Malik Otis Lee of Carver, who was her pride and joy. She was preceded in death by her infant granddaughters Briana and Tatiana Fernandes, her brother Lawrence Martin Sr., and her step-father Walter Brown. She will be greatly missed by many dear family and friends.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth, MA. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 30th from 4 – 6:30 pm, with a memorial service from 6:30 – 7:00 pm. Interment will be private.
