Obituary for Althea Sylva (Malaguti)

Althea “Jackie” Symmes Sylva, age 91, of Plymouth, passed away quietly, with her family by her side on Friday, January 15, 2015. Born and raised in Plymouth, she remained a lifelong resident of the town.
Althea was born on July 9th, 1923, daughter of the late Leah (Vecchi) and Amedio Malaguti. She worked for various textile mills in Plymouth before going on to work at United States Postal Service for a number of years. Some of her favorite pastimes included working in the garden, clamming at Plymouth Beach, hunting, knitting, cross-stitching, watching Boston sports, and spending time with family and friends. Althea was the devoted mother of Maura and Mona Sylva of Plymouth. She was the loving grandmother of Heidi (Sylva) Hefner and Savannah Sylva of Plymouth, and great-grandmother of Haleigh, Kylee and Kaelyn Hefner. She was the loyal sister of Theodora Babini, Fay Fontes, and Owen Malaguti, all of Plymouth. She was preceded in death by Howard J Sylva.
Funeral arrangements under the care of the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 24th at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church, 313 Court Street Plymouth, MA. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Althea’s memory may be made to the St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
