I am a bird person, both a profession and an avocation, with an interest in all of the natural world. So because I work at the Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences, it was natural that I would soon meet Kathryn a lady with a wide interest in everything natural, and specifically everything bird oriented that she came across. For many years Kathryn would visit and enjoy talking about and seeing the latest migrant birds at our lab; and for years she was a regular caller with questions and perceptive observations to ask and share about the world of birds and other natural history events.
Many of the staff, students and volunteers would enjoy these conversations and speculation about the life of birds with Kathryn as we rested on the banding deck between net runs. Then all would pile into the lab after each visit to the nets to marvel at the latest migrants and puzzle out as much as we could about their lives before releasing them to continue their journeys. There is a camaraderie among those with an abiding interest in nature - it knows no boundaries of age or experience. We consider it a privilege to have counted Kathryn among our friends and volunteers and we will miss her. Trevor Lloyd-Evans
