Joseph Daniel Buckley, Jr.
J. Daniel Buckley, Jr., age 68, of Abington, MA and Wallingford, VT died May 11, 2015.
Devoted son of the late Joseph D. Buckley and Margaret “Mig” (Garrity) Buckley. Beloved father of Colleen Alfieri and her husband Edward of Plymouth, grandfather of Amelia and James Alfieri, and former husband of Jane Buckley of Abington. Brother of Paul Buckley and his wife Dale of Whitman, Eileen Simonelli and her husband Roland of Abington, and Kevin Buckley and his wife Fran of Liverpool, NY. Also survived by 12 nieces and nephews, and many cousins.
Dan was a graduate of Holy Cross College, class of 1968. Throughout his early career in social work, Dan worked tirelessly to help others live a fuller and more rewarding life by protecting the lives of abused and neglected children and advocating for the rights of people with intellectual disabilities. In mid-career, after completing accounting courses at Harvard University, he joined the Buckley family warehouse rack business in Rockland as the assistant treasurer. He then worked as the Vice President of Finance at National Braille Press as well as several for-profit businesses.
As an ardent follower of Bill Wilson, he adhered to the 12 Steps of Alcoholic Anonymous for 28 consecutive years. Dan was an avid reader, passionate jeopardy player, a scholar of US presidents, enthusiastic tent camper and animated story teller with a keen intellect.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Monday 5-7 PM in the Bartlett Funeral home and the Funeral Mass on Tuesday, May 19th at 9 AM in Saint Bridget Church, Abington.
