Obituary for Audrey Mahoney

MAHONEY, Audrey Marie (Donovan) passed away peacefully on October 16, 2015 in Weymouth, Massachusetts after a period of ill health. Audrey was born in Boston on January 28, 1935 to William V. Donovan and Emily J. (Sceviour) Donovan. She was raised in Dorchester and was a graduate of the Jeremiah E. Burke High School. Upon graduation she worked for AT&T. Audrey loved a great mystery novel, visits to casinos, her cat Miss Kitty, traveling to Hawaii, Alaska and Denver, watching the Boston sports teams, and cooking, but mainly being involved with her grandchildren who were the absolute lights of her life. She is survived by her children: David M. Chandler, Diane M. (Mahoney) Maguire, John J. Mahoney III and William A. Mahoney. Her most beloved grandchildren: Deirdra Marie Mahoney and her fiancée Nicholas J. Perry, Ian Donovan Maguire and Brendan Barry Maguire. As a baby Ian gave her the nickname of “Ah” and she quickly became Ah to us all. She is also survived by her son-in-law David F. Maguire and her daughter-in-law Melissa R. (Logston) Mahoney, whom she cared about as her own, as well as, her sister Diane M. (Donovan) Bayers Cook, retired Post Master of Brant Rock. In addition to her late parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John J. Mahoney, Jr. and her former husband, David L. Chandler. In April of 2015 she was greatly saddened by the death of her first child, her son, Clayton James Chandler, late of Aurora, Colorado. It is our great belief that Clayton was present and had open arms to welcome her when she passed. Words cannot describe what this beautiful, kind woman meant to her family with her sensibility and fun sense of humor. She once said “hey, in my obituary you must put “she raised kids/grandkids that’s how she spent her life””. And so she did. The Mahoney/Chandler/Maguire family grieves the loss of our matriarch and will bless the time when we are all together again. Cremation will be at Vine Hills Crematory in Plymouth with an interment service to follow in late fall.
