Obituary for William James Murphy (Murphy)

Murphy, William James, Jr. of Plymouth, passed away suddenly on Thursday, January 27, 2016. He was born in Albany, NY, the son of the late Agnes Mary (Dunn) and William James Murphy, Sr.
Bill attended school in Albany, later moving to Waltham, MA, graduating from Waltham High School. He attended Babson College. He joined the US Army, where he was a member of the 82nd Airborne, serving in Korea. After leaving the Army, Bill worked for a short time for Pratt & Whitney in Manchester, CT. He then got a job with the Plymouth Police Department, rising to the rank of chief. He was always concerned with veteran’s rights and needs. He joined the American Legion and rose through the chairs to Commander for the State of MA. Bill also belonged to the VFW, the AMVets, the SeaSide Club and was Vice President of Mass. Chapter XIII of the Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club..
Bill loved fishing, boating, crosswords, motorcycling; reading, traveling and his wife were the loves of his life.
Bill married Brenda Benea and became the proud father to her children; Sheri, Ken, Jackie and Chrissy (and her husband, Dennis). He was the grandfather to Katie, Erin, Kelly, Kenny, Jared and Christopher, and great-grandfather to Jake, Ryan, Anthony, Westly, Gabriel and Kayden. He leaves behind his sister Margaret Murphy Davis of FL. He also leaves behind his adopted family in Ohio as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandson, Sean, as well as his brother, Charles and his sister, Elizabeth.
Bill was quick to offer help to his neighbors and family and slow to accept help for himself-always saying the best way to help me is to get out of my way.
Funeral arrangements will be under the care of the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, February 3rd from 3 – 8 pm. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, February 4th at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Church, 313 Court Street, Plymouth. Interment will be private.
