Obituary for Dorothy May Lord (Lord)

Dorothy May Lord (Callahan, Sylvester), 87
Dorothy (Callahan, Sylvester) Lord, a long-time resident of Marshfield, MA, passed away on May 10th from complications due to CHF. Dorothy was born on August 21, 1928, and we should all be ashamed that we don’t know the exact time. *wink*
Dorothy lived a long and interesting life and proudly told of her many jobs including being a waitress at Old Orchard Beach, a synchronized swimmer traveling with the Water Follies, a switchboard operator in California where she spent time living with her older brother Bob Lord and his wife Mary before they each embarked on starting their own legacies and large families.
The 60s brought Dorothy to Marshfield where she stayed until 2015, and four of her children and four grandchildren graduated from Marshfield High School. In the mid-80s Dorothy was a Librarian at the Ventress Memorial Library. Later, Dorothy joined Road to Responsibility, where she spent nearly 30 years in varied positions. Dorothy loved her years at Road to Responsibility and she devoted almost every ounce of her being to the mentally- and physically-challenged people of whom she often offered a caring and understanding to these clients that most people reserve only for immediate family and friends.
Dorothy will be greeted in Heaven by her children, Sandra M. (Callahan) Carlson and Timothy Callahan, hand-in-hand with her beloved Grandson, Sean O’Halloran.
Dorothy is lovingly remembered and survived by her children: Tom Callahan and his wife Lori (Caprio) Callahan; Michael Callahan and Tammi Callahan of Boston; Carrie Sylvester and her father Charles Sylvester, of Marshfield.
Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren filled her life with much pride and happiness included in those blessings are Randall Carlson and his fiancée Kim Hoffman of Cape Cod, MA; Heidi Jean Elizabeth Carlson Truitt and her son Ian Truitt (Athol, MA) and fiancé Frank Duross, of Cape Cod, MA.; Kristin Callahan and Patrick Gilmartin and their daughter Clara (of Weymouth), Tim Callahan of Plymouth, and Colby and Devan Ross of Marshfield, MA.
There will be a celebration of life service held on Monday May, 16th at the First Congregational Church of Marshfield, 11 am, and a fellowship time, immediately following across the street at the FCCM Parish Hall.
The family is grateful for the thoughts and prayers from family and friends near and far and thankful for the support and guidance received from nurses, counselors, and aids from Cranberry Hospice and Bay Path Nursing Home.
Spiritual bouquets, flowers, or cards can be sent to the First Congregational Church of Marshfield (1981 Ocean St. Marshfield, MA 02050).
